What is All-State? |
Acceptance to the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Chorus is one of the highest honors for a high school singer. The regional audition tests a student’s ability to sing scales, sing an art song with a beautiful tone, appropriate placement and breath support, and sight-read music at a high rate of difficulty.
All of the information, repertoire and practice files needed for the audition are located at:
Your student will need some help outside of the school day to prepare for the audition. I highly recommend a vocal coach or voice teacher to assist with preparation for ASC. I am also available most days after school to help your student with the audition.
After the first audition, students that are accepted into an All-State Chorus will move on to the final audition. The final audition is a test of the student’s knowledge of the music to be performed. The student must sing their part of the assigned All-State repertoire in front of judges and have a 70% or higher accuracy level.
Students that audition for GMEA All-State Chorus must be committed to following through the audition(s) and committed to being a part of the event if selected.
