Prospective Students

Welcome!

Whether you've been singing for years or are just discovering your love of music, we're excited you're considering becoming part of the Lassiter Chorus family.

High school is about more than classes—it's about finding a place where you belong. For hundreds of Lassiter students, chorus has become that place. Our students build lifelong friendships, grow as musicians and leaders, and create memories that last well beyond graduation.

One of the best parts of chorus is that it fits into a busy high school schedule. Many of our singers are involved in athletics, theater, clubs, student government, STEM programs, and Advanced Placement courses. Chorus requires only a few evening performances each year, making it easy to stay involved in the activities you love while continuing to sing.

Throughout the year, students have opportunities to challenge themselves through honor choirs, Georgia All-State Chorus auditions, leadership positions, community performances, and special events. Students who remain in chorus throughout high school can also earn a Fine Arts Diploma Seal upon graduation.

Lassiter Chorus has a long tradition of excellence both on and off campus. Our choirs have performed with the United States Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants, the 116th United States Army Band, the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and the Michael O'Neal Singers. Our internationally recognized Tour Choir has traveled throughout Europe, including performances in Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, and Greece. In the United States, Lassiter singers have performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., and many other remarkable locations.

Beyond the performances and travel, chorus helps students develop confidence, creativity, discipline, collaboration, and leadership—skills that last a lifetime. Our graduates have gone on to attend outstanding colleges and universities across the country, and many credit their experiences in chorus as an important part of their personal growth and college applications.

At Lassiter Chorus, we believe music is more than an elective—it's a community where students are challenged, supported, and inspired every day. No matter your future goals, chorus can be an unforgettable part of your high school experience.

We hope you'll join us and become part of the Lassiter Chorus family. We can't wait to sing with you!

Why Chorus?

Students join chorus for many different reasons. Some have sung for years, while others are discovering their voices for the first time. Regardless of experience, every student has a place here.

Participation in chorus provides opportunities to:

  • Develop confidence through performance
  • Build lasting friendships
  • Strengthen teamwork and communication skills
  • Improve musicianship and vocal technique
  • Explore leadership opportunities
  • Travel and perform throughout Georgia and beyond
  • Earn recognition through honor choirs, All-State, and leadership positions
  • Become part of a supportive community that celebrates every student's success

The memories created through music often become some of the most meaningful experiences of high school. I am excited to help every student discover what is possible when they commit themselves to something bigger than themselves.

A Place to Belong

One of the greatest strengths of the Lassiter Chorus Program is its sense of community.

Students from every grade level, background, and interest come together each day with a shared purpose. It is common to find chorus students who are also athletes, actors, dancers, artists, student leaders, honor students, and members of numerous other organizations.

The friendships formed in chorus often extend well beyond high school. Older students mentor younger singers, leadership students model professionalism, and every member plays an important role in creating a positive and welcoming environment.

My hope is that every student who walks into the chorus room feels challenged, encouraged, and accepted.

Whether your goal is to sing professionally, become a music educator, or simply continue enjoying music throughout your life, I am excited to be part of your journey.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why should I join chorus?

Aside from the fact that you have already invested three years of hard work into singing, know that there are real benefits in continuing in high school chorus. Colleges prefer well-rounded individuals who commit to long term goals such as the study of music. When college admissions see that a student has been part of chorus for seven years they understand that the student has experience in finishing long-term field of study. This is similar to one who must commit ample time in the field of study at the collegiate level.

How are the choir classes structured?

The Lassiter High Choral Department is divided into four academic & one extracurricular choirs that meet during the school day.

9th Grade Treble Choir             SSA ensemble

Junior Varsity Treble Choir       SSA ensemble

Tenor-Bass Choir                      TTBB ensemble

Varsity Treble Choir                  SSAA ensemble (by audition)

Choraliers                                  SATB ensemble (by audition)

Is there an audition to join chorus? Do I need previous experience?

You do not have to audition to join chorus nor do you need prior experience in a choir to join. If you have friends that did not participate in middle school chorus, encourage them to join you! All 9th grade soprano and altos will be enrolled in 9th Grade Treble Choir. All 9th grade tenors and basses will be enrolled in Tenor-Bass Choir.

Is it possible for me to play a sport and be part of the chorus program? What about clubs?

Yes! Many of our students are active in the sports activities at Lassiter. Chorus students have been involved in: Cheerleading, Cross Country, Dance, Softball, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Swim & Dive, Wrestling, Baseball, Gymnastics, Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, and Track & Field. Chorus students are in many other clubs and activities and are able to fully participate in the chorus program.

I’ve applied to join the Lassiter STEM Academy in the fall, and I also want to be part of Lassiter Chorus. Can I do both?

Yes - absolutely! We have many choir members who are involved in STEM. Being part of both will help you develop soft skills—cooperation with others, cultural knowledge, and musical abilities—while also building a strong quantitative foundation. Colleges and employers love intellectually balanced resumes, so we encourage all members of Lassiter Chorus to take advantage of our school’s many academic and extracurricular opportunities.

Scheduling for a STEM + music pathway can be challenging, but it is 100% doable and highly worthwhile. Be sure to talk with one of our current students or your counselor about how you can fit both into your daily schedule.

How do I register for chorus?

Registration forms will be sent to the middle schools from Lassiter in February-March. Register for CHORUS on the appropriate forms and you will be enrolled in chorus for the fall. If you did not register for high school chorus and would like a schedule change, email chelsea.green@cobbk12.org
