What is GMEA?
The Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) is the professional organization that supports music education across the state of Georgia. GMEA provides students with opportunities to grow as musicians through events such as Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE), District Honor Chorus (DHS) , and All-State Chorus (ASC).
Throughout the year, Lassiter Chorus students have the opportunity to participate in many GMEA-sponsored events, performing alongside outstanding musicians from across the state while representing Lassiter High School. These experiences encourage musical excellence, personal growth, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
All-State Chorus
The Georgia All-State Chorus is the highest individual honor available to high school choral students in Georgia. Each fall, interested students may audition through a rigorous statewide process that evaluates vocal technique, musicianship, scales, sight-singing, and solo performance. Preparing for All-State requires dedication and consistent practice, but students receive extensive support through sectionals, individual coaching opportunities, and classroom instruction. Students selected for All-State represent Lassiter High School among Georgia's finest young musicians. Participation requires additional rehearsals, independent practice, and attendance at all audition and performance dates established by GMEA.

District Honor Chorus
Each November, students have the opportunity to be nominated for the GMEA District 12 Honor Chorus, one of Georgia's premier regional honor choir events. Students who are selected rehearse and perform alongside outstanding singers from across Cobb County under the direction of a distinguished guest conductor. District Honor Chorus provides students with the opportunity to perform advanced choral literature, strengthen their musicianship, and represent Lassiter High School among the region's finest young singers.

Large Group Performance Evaluation
Each spring, every Lassiter Chorus ensemble participates in Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE). This performance provides students with the opportunity to perform for a panel of experienced music educators and receive valuable feedback on their musical growth.
Following the concert performance, each choir completes a sight-reading evaluation, showcasing the musicianship and skills developed throughout the school year.
LGPE is a required curricular performance and one of the highlights of the spring semester. It is an opportunity for students to represent Lassiter High School while continuing our tradition of musical excellence.
